Pixie's Pearl Pinkie, Sea Greenie and Birthday Book

I wanted to share with you some images from the Pixie O'Harris Birthday Book. For those who are unfamiliar Pixie is the Australian fantasy artist from the so called golden age of children's book illustrators. She was nicknamed the Welsh Pixie by the friends she made on the boat voyage over to Australia and the name stuck ever since. Her first published fairy tale book was Pearl Pinkie and Sea Greenie in 1930.
Which supposedly from what I've read is rare and hard to find! It's on my wishlist, I'm hoping to snag a copy one day. How sweet is the cover! It's in the same kind of vein as May Gibbs's Obelia (my fav ever 1930's era storybook character!) I did a post about a necklace I made that was inspired by Gibbs and my love of her and her books on my art blog a while back have a look see... http://www.snowskinmooncakes.blogspot.com.au/2011/06/gumnut-necklace.html I have the birthday book in my vintage shop at the moment stall H29 Glen Waverly Antiques Bazaar.

Art Deco Designs book and disc

***Swooning Alert***For History nerds! I borrowed this gem of a book today from RMIT uni library (which has such a great selection I'm so lucky to have access to!)
It's page after page of colourful patterns used for wall papers, fabrics etc from the 1920's, 1930's and 1940's. But what makes this book so nifty is that it also comes with a disc with the images from the book on it too! Here's some of my favs...
